Russian artist Roman Booteens extraordinary coin engraved designs range from golden bugs with wings to mechanical beating hearts. He works to turn old coins into extraordinary relief sculptures. His latest design is no exception - he has carefully modified the US dollar coin (a coin issued since 1921) to feature a 3D glove and sword with hidden mechanisms.
Booteens incredibly intricate design is hand-cut and carved from the center of the coin, creating a metal armor gauntlet with hand-carved decorative details. The glove holds a sword that appears to have been inserted into the side of a coin. The work is already impressive as a static sculpture. But once you press a hidden button on the outer edge of the coin, the metal component comes into motion. Integrated springs allow the gloves fingers to move as if it were wielding a swords hilt.
