Urs Fischer was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1973. He moved to Amsterdam in 1993 and currently works and lives in Berlin, Los Angeles and Zurich. After his first solo exhibition in Zurich in 1996, his works began to be exhibited in well-known museums and art centers around the world. In 2006, he participated in the Biennial Exhibition held by the Whitney Museum of Art in the United States. In 2007, he held an exhibition at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, from which his work gradually began to be accepted outside Europe.
Urs Fischer has always been known for his bold creations, rich imagination, and improvisation of ready-made objects to create works of art. His artistic practice focuses more on the nature of objects, the act of creation itself, and the unpredictable creative process that combines the first two. His work combines illusion and reality, violence and humour, timelessness and ephemerality, it is both logical and absurd. He attempts to capture an unstable equilibrium state whose meaning can never be established.
