This is a tutorial on artificial fruit - use cardboard and toilet paper to make a super realistic apple, with the texture of an oil painting, as if you really reached out and took it out of the painting!
Do you guys find it incredible? Don’t worry that it’s too difficult to make or that you can’t collect all the materials. As long as you read it patiently and follow the steps, you will definitely be able to make it. It will be a little ugly at most! ~
Material Tools:
A real apple (used as a model)
Toilet paper (I used less than one roll for two fruits)
White glue
Water
Cardboard
Toothpick
Acrylic paint (I only used red, green, yellow and brown, depending on the fruit you want to make)
Varnish (optional, makes the apple look better)
1. First place the apple horizontally on the cardboard and roughly draw the horizontal section of the apple.
2. Then use scissors to cut along the drawn line. Does it look similar?
3. Cut in half from the middle of the left and right sides, and cut upward from the bottom to close to the center.
4. Next, I cut out a circle on the cardboard with the same radius as the apple.
5. And cut it in half. You can use a compass or a round prop to accomplish this step.
6. Cut about half of the two semicircles obtained from the middle of the straight edge.
7. Now you can assemble the prepared cardboard to get something similar to an apple shape.
8. Take out a large metal bowl and tear a large amount of toilet paper into pieces. The smaller the pieces, the smoother the surface of the apple. You need quite a bit of toilet paper, the amount shown in the photo is not enough.
9. Then pour a little water into the bowl and start kneading.
10. Also try to tear the paper smaller. Slowly add more and more toilet paper and water in the process until you think its enough to fill the entire apple.
11. Once done, start adding glue and start kneading again.
12. Press the prepared paper pulp into the apple model.
13. Slowly add more until the edges are covered.
14. Next, I put the apple on the stick. This will make it easier for you to work with and will also make drying easier.
To smooth out the edges and bumps, we need to wet our fingers and run them over the surface of the apple.
When you think the shape is okay, place it over a bowl and let it dry. This will take 2 to 3 days.
15. Take a small piece of tissue paper (I used some white paper bags from the bakery), roll it up and start making the stem of the apple. After soaking it in water, bend it a little and let it dry. I put it on top of the radiator and it dried in about half an hour.
16. First paint the apple with a light green background color. I mixed some yellow and green paint to achieve this color, but I thought a bit more yellow might be better, left to dry.
17. Start by painting part of the base red, then cover the rest with yellow/green paint. Now you have to carefully mix the parts they touch. Finally add a few small brown spots to make the apple look more realistic.
18. Make sure the paint covers every part of the apple, then place it on aluminum foil to dry.
19. To make the apples shiny, I used varnish and then let it dry.
20. Finally, you need to insert the stem into the apple. To do this, I poked a hole in the top with a toothpick first.
21. Apply a little glue to the end of the stem and insert it into the hole.
22. Your apple model is ready. Put it next to a real apple and they look very similar.
I think this is a fairly easy craft tutorial that everyone can do at home since it doesn't require a lot of materials (they're pretty much all household items, except acrylic paint)!
