Spring succulent care tips

For succulents, spring is the best season, and almost all succulents will grow wildly during this period. However, this time of year is also the time when succulents are most likely to be in trouble, because most succulents stay indoors or in greenhouses during the winter. When spring warms up, they are suddenly taken outdoors from a stable environment and are very vulnerable to damage from insects. It will also start to become active during this period.

We have compiled some of the most common spring maintenance tips for succulents. Friends who like succulents may wish to refer to them:

1. Do not expose it directly to the outdoors.

The squirrels stay indoors throughout the winter, receiving the warm and soft sunshine. After spring comes, if you suddenly move it outdoors and expose it to the sun, there is a very high chance that the fleshy leaves will be burned. The main factors that cause this kind of damage are not only too strong sunlight, but also particularly strong winds in spring and large temperature changes. This environment is fatal to the meat that has just stepped out of the greenhouse.

Solution: Gradually increase the sunshine time, for example, place it behind glass to give it the longest sunshine time, open the window every day for ventilation, and let the meat slowly adapt to the outdoor environment. Or go to a place that can protect you from the rain. There will only be about 1 hour of direct sunlight every day, and the rest of the time will be scattered light. In this way, you will basically adapt to the outdoor climate after a month. At this time, if you go to a place with sufficient sunshine, it will not appear. Burn phenomenon occurred.

2. Do not cut off water and control water.

Spring is the growing season. It is recommended not to cut off the water. Although the color of the meat will turn green if you water it frequently, this is the fastest growing season~ If you want them to turn into giants, water them more! Watering also depends on the weather conditions and the material and size of the flowerpot. Ceramic pots will dry out quickly, especially smaller pots. Larger pots may take a little longer to dry out, but it’s not bad. Not much. Ceramic flower pots are not breathable, so you still need to be careful when watering. If there is water accumulation, it will easily become waterlogged.

Solution: [Spring watering reference] Cloudy to sunny, gentle breeze, good ventilation.

Ceramic pots (red pottery, rough pottery, high temperature pottery), water once every 3-5 days

Ceramic flower pots, water once every 7-10 days

Plastic flower pots, water once every 5-7 days

3. Avoid using drugs indiscriminately.

Although spring is the growing season, fertilizers and pesticides cannot be used casually. It is still recommended to use relatively stable controlled fertilization. Although it is more expensive, it slowly releases fertilizer and will not cause root burning or leaf pollution. Use pesticides as little as possible. At this time, the leaves of the succulents are relatively fragile. If you encounter a large number of scale insects and are exposed to the sun on a sunny day after spraying, the leaves will basically be sacrificed. I rarely use pesticides recently. I usually use water spraying to get rid of pests. Now there are very few pests and diseases, almost none. The greenhouse is considered pollution-free.

Solution: In addition to using controlled fertilization, other fertilizers should be diluted with as much water as possible. The dilution ratio of pesticides should also be increased, and multiple sprayings should be used to eliminate insects. After spraying, try to place it in a place where the environment is relatively stable and the sunlight is relatively light. In addition, a liquid will be left behind where scale insects have gnawed. This liquid will contaminate the leaves and cause various diseases. Therefore, once scale insects are found, in addition to killing the insects, be sure to clean the leaves. (Small spray bottle high pressure spray cleaning)

In addition to these, if you find that the succulents are not growing for a long time (more than 3 months), please pull them out immediately and adjust them. Adjustment of soil, inspection of root system, etc. (Author: Futaki)
