This article is a tutorial for making a handmade long wallet by "Qiu Lian_Ying". The finished wallet is very beautiful and has good storage capacity! Friends who like long wallets, come and learn from her. There are many steps and the explanations are super detailed!
This is my first time making this wallet. I have mostly made clothes before, so the materials I prepare are different from those for clothes, and I need to buy them from outside. It’s so expensive, and I feel so distressed...
This wallet is going to be given to my teacher Frau Schmidt as a graduation gift, because she likes brown, so I try to choose brown fabric, I hope she likes it~
According to the paper pattern, prepare the surface fabric, the thick cloth lining for the surface fabric, and the quilting for the surface fabric.
The size of the table cloth is 22*20 cm. The curvature of the four corners can be determined according to personal preference~~ But don’t cut the curvature too big!!
Continuous ironing work:
Follow the order of the back of the tablecloth--thick cloth lining--lay cotton--thick cloth lining--and iron the four layers together, and the tablecloth preparation is complete!
Prepare the lining fabric, including the card slot part 20.5*84 cm, 3 parts of the middle spacer part 18*17 cm, and 2 parts of the accordion pleat part 18*14 cm. A thick cloth lining is ironed on the back of the wallet divider. The size of the cloth lining is 18*15.5 cm.
The back of the card slot and accordion pleats are burned separately. Non-woven lining/paper lining/thin cloth lining to increase stiffness~
Fold the card slot part according to the size and concave and convex lines in the picture above, and iron it flat...as shown below, fix it with clips.
Note: Be sure to draw lines on the card slot according to the size before folding, otherwise the card slot will easily become skewed and affect the overall aesthetics.
Adjust each layer of the card slot and try to make each layer even and neat, without any skew!
In addition, draw a straight line in the middle of the card slot for later use!
Also pay attention to adjust the neatness behind the card slot!!
You can’t just adjust the front side, the back side is also important.
Sew along a straight line.
After the car is ready.
Then press the edge of the card slot 3-5 cm at the four clip positions to secure the entire card slot and prevent it from moving!
Then draw neat crosses on the hard lining on the back of the table cloth.
Then align the front of the card slot with the cross lines on the back of the table cloth and clamp it in place with a clip.
After aligning the front of the fabric, sew along the edges, about 6mm.
After sewing
Cut the edges along the front fabric and make a rounded corner. The arc should not be too big or too small.
To make the edge strips, you can use ready-made ones or make them yourself. I didn’t have ready-made ones, so I had to make them myself. The pattern and texture of the linen cloth were good, but I couldn’t bear to use it, so I cut it on a dark brown plain cotton cloth. It had to be cut at a 45-degree angle, 555555~~~I couldn’t bear to cut it~~~(I told myself, I’m not afraid, I feel bad. Just ask your husband for reimbursement, and feel free to cut it...) This wallet requires a hemming strip about 90cm long.
Cut out a corner.
The thickness is about 4cm.
Be sure to fix the hemming strip with a beading needle before turning it on! (Be careful of pricking your hand...) to prevent shifting!
After the carving is completed, the rounded corners should be slowly sewn stitch by stitch, and the hemming strip should be moved a little bit to avoid wrinkles. It was my first time to make a bag, and it was my first time to make rounded edges. I dismantled it many times, and there were still pinholes left after dismantling it. However, after I used an iron to iron it, the pinholes disappeared.
Then continue to use the sewing machine to do other parts, and do the hand sewing last. Of course, you can sew the back of the hem now if you like.
Sew the three pieces of the middle compartment of the wallet with their 18cm edges opposite each other, and sew on the edge of the fabric lining! (I forgot to take a picture here...)
Then face the two 14cm pieces of the accordion pleat part and sew the three sides. Pay attention to leaving about 5 centimeters of return!! Also, trim the three corners to help the flatness after turning over!
After turning over, iron the dividers and accordion pleats of the wallet flat!
Next, make the compartment zipper bag part. Choose a zipper of appropriate length. If you use a zipper to install the zipper, you must install everything that needs to be installed!~~ For example, the zipper head and the small metal pieces at the head and tail.
Place the 18cm edge of the separation layer on the zipper and sew!!
After carving one side, carve the other side. When finished, it will look like the picture above.
Side view.
This is what it looks like after opening, the zipper is finished!
Sew the back of the accordion pleat with a hidden needle!!
After sewing, fold it as shown in the picture above, that is, divide 14 cm into three equal parts and make a folded shape~
The folded accordion pleats: 2 pleats on one side and 3 pleats on one side.
Sewing and fixing the 3 pleats with 1-2 mm seam allowances!
The two pleats on the other side are fixed to the side of the zipper bag respectively! And sew together!! Be sure to use clips to fix them firmly before sewing~~ Otherwise it will be easy to shift!!
The car could be a little thicker here.
After the car is installed, it is as shown in the picture above.
The other side of the zipper bag and the remaining divided layer are sewn together with the accordion pleats in the same way as the previous step~~
After sewing, it will look like the picture above!!
In this way, all the parts that require sewing are basically completed!!! Then you can finish it with your hands with peace of mind!! Hehe~
First fix it with a bead needle.
Then sew with a hidden needle and sew the hemming.
As shown above when completed.
Next, you need to use a bead needle to fix the outer zipper, so fix it!!
I was afraid that the needle would prick my hands, so I took out the needle after basting one round.
Just sew with a flat stitch~
After completion.
After removing the basting, I thought the outer zipper was wrinkled and unsightly, so I sewed it in a circle with a flat stitch. I sewed the edges of the outer zipper with a hidden needle. Unfortunately, the nylon zipper was too difficult to handle and was relatively hard. After sewing with the hidden needle, the edges of the zipper became lace-like, so I used a flat stitch to sew it, if possible. Please use a softer zipper and use a hidden needle to sew it. The wallet will be very detailed, neat and beautiful.
Next, fix the accordion pleats!!
Secure both sides with beads~~
Remember, be sure to adjust the position properly~~ Don’t fix it crookedly and it will cause trouble~!!
The fixed positions on both sides should be generally even~~ Don’t have too much on one side and too little on the other!
Hidden stitches, fixed!!
Then the finished picture posted on the first floor is the same~~~
