From bento boxes to glass cakes, Japan has seen its fair share of people getting creative with their cooking. While you might think this humble sandwich lacks artistic potential, Tastemade Japan showcases the beauty of the bread and fillings. The team recently posted a video online detailing how to prepare their sweet fruit blossom sandwiches, and they're super easy for anyone to make at home.
You might think that fruit, bread and cream is a very strange combination, but you can't deny the visual charm of this snack. Want to try making your own? Heres what you'll need:
Ingredients:
Bread (12 slices, white milk bread recommended)
Fresh Cream (200ml/6.7oz)
Mascarpone cheese (200g/7oz)
Granulated sugar (30g/1oz)
Fruits (Use any fresh fruit available. TastemadeJapan recommends strawberries, oranges, green kiwis, yellow kiwis, mangoes, green seedless grapes, red seedless grapes, and bananas.)
How to:
1. Pour fresh cream and granulated sugar into a bowl to make the cream filling; then stir the mixture for 6 minutes. Next, add the mascarpone cheese and continue mixing for 7 minutes.
2. Cut the fruit into "flowers" - now its time to get creative!
Oranges: Peel and leave intact
Yellow kiwi: slice, top with cream and roll into a roll
Banana: cut into flower shapes
Strawberries: cut into tulip shapes
Mango: cut into flower shapes
Green kiwi: cut into shapes similar to flower stalks
Red grapes: stay as is
Green grapes: cut in half, like leaves
3. Spread the cream on both slices of bread and place the fruit on top of the bread and cream (make sure to place it diagonally). Then, add more cream on top. Next, place another slice of bread on top, sandwiching everything in between.
4. Wrap in plastic wrap and cool in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
5. Cut in half diagonally.
