Teri Culletto, also known as Vineyard Baker, uses bread as an object of artistic creation. She uses fresh herbs and vegetables to create a range of Vincent van Gogh-inspired breads she calls Van Dough, which feature floral imagery that adds both a decorative finish and a baked-in flavor.
Culletto began using flour as a material for art creation in 2018 after being asked to teach an adult education class at his local learning center. “In preparation for my bread class, I started researching the history and origins of bread pancakes,” she says.
As a frequent visitor to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, she was fascinated by the Van Gogh exhibit. "Looking at these works of art, I was inspired," she recalls. "Why not try it?" Using Van Goghs classic sunflower painting as the theme, Culletto created her first one using fresh peppers, cherry tomatoes, scallions, and leeks. Waiting for the finished bread.
The finished bread is beautiful and delicious, like a work of art. "This has become my new favorite bread to make," she said.
