1. Draft
To create a paper-cut work, you must first conceive. After the idea is determined, you can start the draft layout, make a detailed description of the picture, draw the black and white effect, and use white powder for the modified parts. For beginners, the thinner the manuscript, the easier it is to cut and carve. If you want to carve a symmetrical manuscript, just draw half of it. Of course, the drafting step is indispensable for beginners and less skilled people, but for those skilled paper-cutting artists, this step can be completely omitted. They only need to think about it in their minds before creating a work. Once you have the idea in mind, you can start working on it directly, there is no need to draw it out again.
2. Cut, carve
After conceiving and drawing the paper-cut pattern, the paper-cut creators picked up the scissors in their hands and started to create. They first cut out the rough pattern along the drawn picture, and then when they encountered the place that needed to be carved with a knife, they used the picture and paper. After the stapler is set, the four corners are fixed on the wax plate. In order to ensure the accuracy of the image, generally the facial features are carved first, and the flower and bird patterns are carved first with details or important points, and then slowly carved from the center to the surroundings. The order of the knife Just like writing, go from top to bottom, from left to right, from small to large, from thin to thick, from part to whole. Try to avoid repeating the cut, and cut off the unnecessary parts with a knife. Do not tear it with your hands. Otherwise, the paper-cut will have rough edges, thus affecting the beauty of the entire paper-cut work.
3. Jie Li
The peeling process is mainly used for the processing of batch products in factories. The production of single paper-cut works does not require this process. In mass production, after the cutting and engraving is completed, the paper-cut window decoration materials need to be peeled off one by one. The paper-cut window decoration materials such as electro-optical paper and suede paper are easier to peel off because the paper surface is smooth, while single rice paper and powdered paper, Because the paper is light and thin, and has been dampened and colored, it is easy to stick to each other and difficult to peel off. Therefore, before peeling off, the engraved cardboard must be gently rubbed to separate the papers from each other, and then the first paper must be removed. Gently lift up the corner of the paper and blow on it with your mouth to help uncover it.
4. Paste
After peeling off, the finished product needs to be pasted up for easy storage. There are two methods of pasting. One method is to cutPlace the paper flat on the supporting paper, and use a brush or thin wooden strips dipped in paste to stick it little by little from the inside out. This method cannot make all the paper cuts flat, and the speed is slower. The advantage is that it is simpler; another method The method is to turn the paper cut flat and lay it flat on the paper, then dip a brush into the diluted paste, and gently brush it flatly on the paper to be supported. In this process, special attention must be paid not to wrinkle the paper brush, so the brush There must be a small amount of glue on it, and then fasten the glued side to the back of the paper-cut, and gently flatten it with your hands so that the paper-cut is all flat and stuck to the supporting paper. Gently lift it up to dry and store flat. The adhesive can be paste or white latex. 5. When modifying the finished product, it is inevitable that the knife will cause damage when cutting and engraving the work, especially when engraving. If a large area is damaged, it will be difficult to repair. If a small area is damaged, a part of it can be carved out, and a piece can be repaired and re-engraved. However, if the colored paper-cut is dyed incorrectly, it cannot be covered. The only way is to carve out the dyed area, patch it up and dye it again. Therefore, when making modifications, you must be aware of it before making any changes.
6. Copy - smoke sample - dry sample
There are two methods of copying. One is to place the paper-cut pattern on white paper and place them flatly in the water. When the water soaks the paper surface and no water drops are contained, pull the carved paper and white paper out of the water at the same time and stick them together. on the wooden board, then place the paper face down over an oil lamp to steam, but not too close to the lamp head to avoid burning. If you need to make large quantities, you can use the blueprint method: glue the original paper and the white paper with a layer of medicinal solution (a solution of red blood salt and water) together, clamp it with two pieces of glass, and put it in the sun Leave it in the sun for 3 to 4 hours. After development, wash the liquid on the paper with clean water and you can copy it.
The above is the basic process of paper-cutting described by local paper-cutting artist Wu Yiyi during the interview. At the same time, the old man also told the author about the general mounting and preservation methods of paper-cutting.
