Japanese artist Akie Nakata sees the world in a unique way. While many people often turn a blind eye to a rock or stone they see, Akie was able to see their potential. For the past nine years, she has taken ordinary stones and used acrylic paint to transform them into something magical, into highly realistic animals that can fit on the palm of your hand. Akie uses only acrylic paint and, using tiny brushes, carefully brings each animal to life. In fact, the creative process begins the moment the stone is discovered. Its natural shape helps inspire what kind of animal it will become.
From adorable dogs and curious cats to a variety of frogs, birds and mice, her talents have attracted a huge following and her creations often sell out quickly. Occasionally, Akie also posts before and after photos of her rock art pieces. Akies work is even more impressive when viewed side by side.
