Spanish artist Ignacio Canales Aracil created a series of flower basket works "The Fragility of Time" using pressed flower techniques. The flower baskets are deliberately placed upside down. The slightest vibration or weight may crush the flower baskets. As expected, the concept of "fragility" is expressed.
Embossed flower art uses special technology to dehydrate, press and dry flowers to preserve the original posture and color of the flowers. It sounds a bit like plant specimens, but through the designers design processing, it is no longer rigid. The plant specimens become delicate handicrafts. The art of pressed flowers can be traced back to Egypt thousands of years ago. Traces of pressed flowers were found in the coffin of Tutankhamuns mother three thousand years ago. Through the preservation of Greek and Roman botanists, these techniques can still be used today.
However, the pressing technique used by Aracil is somewhat different. He will select the flower stems and carefully weave them along the cone-shaped model. Without the help of any adhesive, after a months drying period, the flowers will be dried. Naturally shaped into the shape of a basket. Finally, lightly spray varnish to prevent moisture from damaging the structure of the flower basket. Without the moisture, the color of the pressed flowers seems to have a bit more vicissitudes of life. Although the pressed flower basket is fragile and easily damaged, it can stand firmly on the table without any support. From another perspective, it seems to have solid qualities that can withstand the test of time.
