Ignorant people will laugh at other peoples differences, but brave people will turn their own differences into unique ones that others will envy.
When Ashley Soto, a 21-year-old Florida girl, was 12 years old, she was diagnosed with a rare disease - vitiligo. Vitiligo is a rare skin disease caused by acquired melanin loss. Only about 1% of the worlds population has vitiligo. People suffer from vitiligo. Soto developed a spot on his neck, which spread to 75 percent of his skin within a year.
In school, she often encountered ridicule and bullying from her classmates. Some people would deliberately tease her about whether she had fallen into bleach, which made Soto wear long-sleeved clothes and jeans all year round to cover up the spots on her body. Now, through the power of art, Soto has begun to slowly overcome his inferiority complex and turn the spots on his body into beautiful body paint.
Through body painting, the spots on Sotos body are no longer just spots one after another, but turned into artistic creations, including world maps, flowers, and even Van Goghs Starry Night. These body paintings take up to 3 hours to complete, but they can brew unlimited courage and help Soto face bullying and live out his life.
