The suitcase is an object that symbolizes travel, wandering, and memory. What about a suitcase with a mirror that reflects another aspect of the city?
Lisbon-born photographer Rui Calcada Bastos began his creative career living in Berlin, Germany in 2003. Berlin, a city full of historical pain and charm, fascinates Rui. He expressed the city in his own unique way. Through a faceless man carrying a mirrored suitcase, the mirror reflects the daily life of Berlin, including parks, stations, buildings, sidewalks, etc.
With this suitcase, we use a special perspective to explore this ever-changing city, a city that was once divided into two by the Berlin Wall and the people living in it. Through the meaning of "suitcase", these city scenes are also cut into square fragments, as if they can be taken away and packaged as memories. Man carrying a suitcase, where will you go next?
