Female photographer visits Russian ghetto on New Yorks waterfront

25-year-old Ukrainian female photographer Emine Ziyatdinova recently felt at home in the Russian colony of Brighton Beach, New York City.

She used her camera to record the life scenes of people in the narrow strip of land next to the Atlantic Ocean where Russians live in Brooklyn, New York. She found that many of the residents here were unfriendly and the people on the streets were not polite to others. Many immigrants “have high expectations but don’t know what they are.” Some Russian residents also resented having them filmed, fearing that her unsparing description of their daily lives would be very different from what they told relatives and friends back home.
