In 1958, the "Zigong Arts and Crafts Cooperative Factory" was established to produce paper-cutting as a formal arts and crafts product.

Gradually getting rid of its past practical functions, paper-cutting became a kind of arts and crafts product and began to be sold. By 1965, the daily production output of Zigong paper-cuts reached about 1,000 pieces, mainly including small lanterns, zodiac signs, and bonsai fruits. After the reform and opening up, the Municipal Arts and Crafts Company developed a series of Zigong scenery paper-cut commemorative gifts that reflected local culture and regional characteristics, such as the Tianche, Rongxian Giant Buddha, Fushun Confucian Temple, Xiqin Guild Hall, and Wangye Temple, and were favored by people. In 1962, Sichuan Peoples Publishing House edited and published "Sichuan Folk Paper-cutting", which published 42 paper-cut patterns, among which 21 were selected by Yu Manbai, 5 by Yi Sijing, and 1 by Li Wuzhong. It can be seen that Zigong paper-cutting at that time was very important throughout the world. Sichuan Province has become a dichotomy. In the same year, special counters were opened in Beijing International Bookstore and Youyi Bookstore to sell Zigong paper-cuts. The supply was often in short supply and they were sold out as soon as they were put on the counter. In particular, the exhibition of paper-cut works of Chinese and foreign womens heads is deeply loved by international friends. One order often reaches tens of thousands of pieces, which are sold all over the world. After the death of Mr. Yu Manbai in 1968, his apprentices gradually began to stand out, allowing Zigong paper-cutting to regain its glory in the 1980s and 1990s. By 1986, 50,000 sets of Zigong paper-cut "Characters of the Three Kingdoms" had been created, and 400,000 pieces had been exported to Japan.Set a new export record.
