Wu Gengzhen, a paper-cut magician who walks between tradition and modernity
Wu Gengzhens ultimate expression is always based on the overall space. In the first solo exhibition titled "Bring a Basket of Fruit to See Her", through the collection of video paper-cutting, video installations and projection works, he uses his own The video works are used as materials for paper-cutting. The content of the image includes records left when traveling in northern Shaanxi many years ago, as well as photos taken with grandma as the protagonist. The pattern cut on the image is contrary to those personal creations in the past, and adopts the traditional Some traditional patterns, those originally clear and complete images, gradually became fragmented in the process of cutting out the final result. We can neither fully grasp the content of the image, nor clearly identify the shapes of the paper-cut patterns, but can only constantly go back and forth between these two desires. Through the fragmentary clues left by the artist, we can deduce that perhaps after all, there is only to the whole in our consciousness.
