1. Yuxian paper-cutting is sold domestically
Yuxians paper-cuts are mainly for the mainland market, and most of them are sold domestically. In the 1920s and 1930s, Yuxians window grilles were sold to Beijing, Tianjin, Baoding, Taiyuan, Baotou, Zhangjiakou and other places by Yuxian people with a long-standing business tradition, mainly in northern cities near Yuxian. At its peak before the Anti-Japanese War, the sales scope could expand to Fengzhen in Suiyuan in the north, Shenyang and Shichun in the northeast, and as far south as Henan and other places. At present, Yuxian paper-cutting has been promoted and sold nationwide because of its unique characteristics and partly because of the smart and business-savvy Yuxian people. It can be seen and bought in many famous tourist attractions.
2. Yu County paper-cut export
According to relevant records, the export of Yuxian paper-cuts began a long time ago. “According to records from Tianjin Port and Beijing International Bookstore, since the late Qing Dynasty, Yuxian window grilles have traveled across the ocean and been sold to Southeast Asia... …” In 1957, after the Yuxian Special Crafts Production Cooperative received an order from Dong Fenghui, a Japanese expatriate who worked in the Japanese department of the Central Radio Station in Beijing, the paper-cut paper-cuts of opera characters’ faces were sent back to Japan and received a warm welcome. After that, orders from Beijing International Bookstore also continued to sell Yuxian paper-cuts overseas. In order to facilitate the export of paper-cutting activities, in 1996, the county party committee and the county government instructed the County Foreign Trade Bureau to establish Yuxian Paper-cutting Export Company. In 1997, it obtained the self-operated import and export rights with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. Therefore, paper-cut trade activities in Yu County became more active in the 1990s, and international trade volume increased rapidly. Recently, Yuxian paper-cutting products "not only sell well domestically, but are also exported to more than 40 countries and regions around the world." These sales have increased the income of paper-cutting artists and inspired their enthusiasm to continue engaging in the paper-cutting industry, making the paper-cutting skills not only not forgotten but also get more favorable promotion, and at the same time let Yu CountyPaper-cutting is known and understood by more people around the world.
