Every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, people eat rice dumplings, top eggs, insert mugwort, tie colorful silk threads, hang sachets, and sometimes wear small brooms, small grates and other crafts. In the south, there are also folk customs such as dragon boat racing and drinking realgar wine. I designed an origami rice dumpling. The folding method is very simple. As long as we have good-looking colored paper, we can enjoy the fun of making rice dumplings anytime and anywhere.
1 Prepare a rectangular piece of paper with an aspect ratio of 3:2. One side is required to be white, and the other side can be green or patterned.
2 Fold in half, then unfold.
3 Fold the bottom edge to the center line.
4 Fold in half and fold the right half to the back.
5 Turn over and flatten as shown in the picture.
Fold the right side to the back.
6 Fold the lower half of the paper up along the fold line. The fold line should be parallel to the edge of the paper.
Fold the other side the same way.
7 Unfold the paper and turn it over to the colored side.
Fold the two folded edges to align with the center line.
8 Unfold the paper and repeat steps 4 to 5.
9 As shown in the figure, point A is aligned with line segment BC and folded.
Open, leaving the crease DE and the crease FG intersecting at point D.
Connect to DH as shown.
10 Unfold the paper.
Find two points D and M in the picture, connect and extend DM, and fold the upper part of the paper to the back. This crease should be parallel to the edge of the paper.
Fold up along the existing crease.
Turn the paper 180 degrees as shown.
Fold the bottom narrow strip up, and the crease should be close to the upper fold.
11 Unfold the paper, repeat steps 4 to 6, and fold it into the shape in the picture below.
As shown in the picture, open the two layers of paper in the middle, and gradually flatten them along the existing creases.
In this way, a regular triangular pyramid appears on the upper part of the paper, and the shape of the pyramid is arranged.
12 Fold the lower half of the paper to the back along the existing crease.
Fold the upper part to the back along the fold line in the picture.
Fold down the excess paper at the top edge, making the crease parallel to the edge of the paper.
13 Fold in half and find the midpoint.
As shown in the picture, fold it into a 60-degree angle.
Open.
Fold inwards.
Flat.
Also fold the other side inwards.
Tuck the left corner into the right paper layer and press it flat.
Fold as shown in the picture.
Insert it into the gap and press it flat.
Fold the other side in the same way.
Fold it like a zongzi.
Wrap the silk thread.
In order to make the rice dumpling fuller, you can open the rice dumpling from the bottom, stuff it with plant spices, seal it and use it as a sachet. You can also fold the paper by hand as shown in the picture above, stuff it with rice, and add some glue to the rice dumpling leaves to shape it to make it more realistic. You can also wrap some small gifts, such as rings, necklaces, jewelry, etc. in paper towels and put them into rice dumplings, and give them to relatives and friends during the Dragon Boat Festival. They will definitely like them.
