In terms of price, ballpoint pens cannot be called luxury goods, but in terms of artistic value, they may not be!

Artist Ray Cicin was inspired by the squid and octopus illustrations of German naturalist Ernst Haeckel, and drew a giant octopus. The size of the drawing paper is about 157.5 cm x 162.5 cm. You can imagine how big the octopus is. Got it!

But what’s special about this painting is not only the size of the octopus, but also Cicin’s creative tools. Cicin used ballpoint pens that everyone didn’t want to complete this masterpiece. It was originally painted on the table and now hung on the wall. However, whether it is outlines, coloring, shadows, textures and other details, Cicin is not sloppy. Because of this, the finished product can be different from Ernst Haeckels biological illustrations and step out of Cicins own style, which is realistic and full of momentum.

This giant octopus took Cicin a total of one year to complete. In addition to the octopus, Cicin also completed many works with ballpoint pens, such as targets or stumps on tree trunks. He continued to create them and became Deep Blue series of works.
