Normally I make spinning tops on a lathe, but one day while camping I had the idea to try carving them by hand. The first few were not very good, but as time went by, I got better and better with practice. The important thing is that they are fun to make and play with!~
Materials and tools: a good knife, a thick branch.
Choosing a branch of appropriate thickness and relatively straight is key.
Start sharpening the tip of the top first, keep it even, otherwise your top will wobble as it spins.
The pointed part is sharpened, and the cone part is shorter to help the balance of the top.
Then start making the decorative texture of the top.
Then make the handle at the tail of the top.
Don’t be too long, and don’t be too thick. Try it a few times to get the hang of it.
Thats it, now lets test how balanced it is.
If it wobbles, that means its probably uneven and you can continue to fine-tune it with a knife~
