Parents have long known the importance of visual stimulation in the early stages of infancy. Gently rocking wind chimes are a great way to entertain babies and provide healthy stimulation for cognitive development. The bright colors and simple shapes of this DIY geometric baby wind chime are eye-catching, perfect for soothing little ones.

1. Place two wooden sticks crosswise and glue them together in the center with hot glue.

2. Cut out ten triangles, ten circles and ten diamond shapes about 2 inches wide/high. For each of the three shapes, cut five of each from two different colors of paper.

You can use scissors or an embossing tool to cut them.

3. Pair matching shapes and then divide them into five columns. Each column should have a pair of triangles, a pair of circles, and a pair of rhombuses. Note that although the shapes shown in the image above are offset, you will need to align the edges of each pair before proceeding to the next step.

4. Use a sewing machine to sew. Starting with the bottom shape of each column, sew a straight stitch through the center of each shape, joining the two pieces of paper together. Make sure to leave about 1.5 inches from one shape to the next.

9. Cut an extra piece of wire to hang the wind chime on (I folded the wire over to make it thicker). Tie the centers of the sticks together, leaving enough string to hang the wind chime at the desired height.
