The Materials Research Science Group at the University of Illinois recently announced their latest research results-electronic skin. This kind of skin is composed of sensors, antennas, light-emitting diodes and other components, and is powered by embedded solar cells or induction coils. It can be used to record the users heartbeat, brain activity, muscle contraction and other body information. If it is placed on the throat , it can even perceive simple language commands to allow users to control computer games. This skin is about the same thickness as a human hair and can be applied directly to real skin (similar to a tattoo sticker) without any adhesive. Electronic skin has broad prospects in medical assistance. Although it still has limitations such as its inability to be used for a long time (the electronic skin will fall off with the metabolism of human cells) and its high cost, it is believed that these problems will be solved one by one in the future. The research team said they will also further work on adding various new components to enrich its functionality.
