Being able to make some creative handicrafts always makes people feel happy. Especially when it comes to giving new life to old materials by repurposing them and adding a little bit of your own inspiration.
This is a tutorial on how to make a storage cabinet using cardboard and denim, designed with drawers and side pockets. The exact size is not specified as it depends on the size of the cardboard, denim, packaging box.
I hope you enjoy the transformation process and are satisfied with the final product!~
You will need:
Cardboard, preferably a sturdy and smooth one.
A ruler.
Scissors.
Pencil.
Utility knife (optional, depending on the type of cardboard you use)
White glue.
Strong rope.
8 cartons, can be used to hold juice, milk or other drinks.
Old jeans.
8 buttons (buttons on the jeans themselves are good).
1. First cut out 8 drawers of the same size from the paper box. Then cut a piece of denim large enough to wrap completely around one of the drawers. Make sure its long enough and wide enough to extend by two centimeters on each side. Every drawer is done this way.
2. Next, cut 16 square fabric pieces of the same size (two for each drawer). These will be used for the bottom of the drawer, one on the outer bottom and one on the inner bottom.
3. For 8 long pieces of denim, with the long side facing you, measure and mark about a centimeter from the edge.
4. Now mark the location of all four sides of the drawer.
5. Place the tags and buttons anywhere on the marked section and sew them securely. Alternatively, you can try pasting.
6. Take out a drawer, place it on the denim and stick it. Once the glue dries, wrap the denim around the other sides of the drawer and glue. Wait for the glue to dry.
7. Fold the top excess part and glue it to the inside of the drawer and wait for the glue to dry again.
8. Turn the box over and cut off the excess denim in the corners so there is no overlap when all edges are folded over.
9. Glue them to the box.
10. Take out a square piece of fabric that was cut previously and glue it to the outside bottom of the box.
11. And glue the other one to the inside bottom of the box.
12. The other 7 drawers are also prepared in this way.
13. Cut out 2 pieces of cardboard with the same width as the drawer and twice the length of the drawer, plus the thickness of the cardboard and the thickness of the 4 layers of denim.
Without added thickness, the drawer may end up running too tight or even impossible to fit in.
14. Wrap and glue 2 pieces of cardboard with denim.
15.Both sides of the cardboard should be covered with denim.
16. Apply glue and stick it on.
17. The denim should be slightly longer than the cardboard length (1.5cm - 2cm). Do not glue the excess parts together!
18. Cut off excess denim.
19. Finally, cut a small groove in the middle of each piece of cardboard. Cut one from the side that is not covered with denim (that is, the side that still shows the cardboard) and another cut from the other side (the side that is completely wrapped with denim). Plug them together to get a cross-shaped structure.
20. Now it’s time to prepare the outer frame. Take four drawers and fasten them to the cross-shaped structure with strong ropes.
21. Now we need to make four pieces of cardboard as the frame. Each of these pieces should be the same width as four drawers.
22. Next wrap the cardboard around the assembly and glue the cardboard to the excess denim on the cross-shaped structure.

23. Use paper to tape the backs of the two components.
24. Glue cardboard with a length and width equal to the dimensions of the entire component to the back of one of the components.
25. Then glue the two components together back to back. This is done so that the two halves are separated so that when one drawer is inserted from one side, it does not push out the drawer on the other side.
26. This step is to ensure that the outside is smooth. Cover all sides of the storage cabinet with a piece of thin cardboard.
27. Cut 4 pieces of thin cardboard large enough to cover the sides and glue them.
28. After pasting it, press it with a book to let the glue dry completely. Change direction and glue the other two pieces.
29. Prepare a piece of denim that is large enough to cover the entire storage cabinet (excluding the sides with drawers).
30. A small bag is added next to it, which can also be used to put some gadgets. Wait for the glue to dry.
31. There will be moreof denim cut open.
32. Then fold and glue to the inside.
33. Congratulations! The fully functional denim and cardboard material storage cabinet is completed.
34. Open and close the drawer to see how flexible it is, although it is unlikely to be adjusted again.
35. Now, you can put it on the desktop to put some small odds and ends~
