Artist Sam Barsky has a unique way of commemorating the places he travels. Instead of the usual knick-knacks like coffee cups, he hand-knitted his own sweaters in advance, depicting images of the specific areas he planned to visit. He then went to that location to pose in a knitted outfit. This sweater doubles as a wearable postcard, and its intricate effect is impressive. His subjects, from fields to bridges, lighthouses to rock formations, are as clear as a glance, just put on.
The Baltimore-based artist has been knitting for two decades and has made more than 140 types of sweaters in that time. For him, traveling and knitting go hand in hand. When he travels, he draws inspiration from his own clothing and hikes to places with the intention of wearing his creations. "I just finished the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan," Barsky said, "and I went there to take pictures."
