Artists Asya Kozina and Dmitriy Kozin are taking white wig accessories to a whole new historical level. The talented duo, based in St. Petersburg, create giant, wearable paper sculptures entirely out of paper, layered in intricate designs. Although their pieces feature everything from cars to ships to entire palaces, they were all made out of a love and fascination with the fashions of the Baroque and Rococo art movements. These intricate wigs take an average of a week from conception to actual production.
The artist says most of the hard work happens during the brainstorming and sketching stages - once the rough draft is finalized, its just a matter of executing the sculpture. Like their inspiring predecessors in the Baroque and Rococo periods, Asya Kozina and Dmitriy Kozin like to infuse their wigs with modern touches, such as airplanes and skyscrapers. Other embellishments include butterflies, flowers, feathers and cut-out layers of distressed geometric hairstyles. Although they are inspired by the past, the artists say they see their creations as "existing in an alternative world where wigs are still popular, like retroism."
Kozina and Kozin’s unique and time-consuming headwear as wearable art and beautyattracted attention for his artistic sculptures. In fact, their exquisite wigs are already on display in museums, and in December 2019, the two artists were asked to create accessories for Dolce & Gabbanas fashion show models.
