Smart furniture made by modular robots

Smartphones, smart TVs, smart watches...everything nowadays pays attention to intelligence. In such an intelligent era, even various furniture can be intelligent. The BioRobotics Laboratory (BioRob) of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland recently developed a modular robot "Roombot". Each module can be connected to each other to form furniture with different structures such as tables and stools, and its deformation or movement can be controlled through gestures or voice.

Each Roombot module is composed of two parts. The built-in drive motor and power supply allow the Roombot to rotate freely. At the same time, it is also equipped with freely retractable claws, which allows it to be adhered to the wall or ceiling. Currently, the research team is working hard to optimize Roombot’s movement methods and adjust activity algorithms. It is believed that it will bring us smart homes beyond imagination in the near future. Please see the video introduction for details
