Nature is an endless source of inspiration for many artists and designers, many of whom reimagine natural forms and colors as part of their own work. Radhika Dhumal, a furniture and interior design student at the National Institute of Design in India, drew inspiration from the world of insects when she designed the Elytra coffee table based on the shape and movement of beetles.
Talented designers have created a "bionic and dynamic" table that contains two glass-encrusted "wings" that can be opened to expand its surface. This stylish feature cleverly mimics the movement of a real beetle as it would fly.
In addition, the Elytra table features insect-like legs, a rounded "head" and a curved main "body" in the shape of a bugs belly. "As a designer, it was a wise decision to stick with this concept because I truly believe that the best designs are found in nature," Dhumal said.
