When they woke up early in the morning, Paris residents discovered a nearly 30-ton sperm whale lying on the bank of the Seine River. . However, although it looks like the real person from left to right, in fact this corpse is an installation art deliberately "stranded" by the Belgian art group Captain Boomer Collective.
This is not the first time that this huge whale has been stranded. Starting from the Thames River in London in 2013, it has been seen in Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and other places, always triggering heated discussions among local residents. The art team stated that this creation hopes to use art to arouse peoples attention to environmental and ecological issues. The surreal sculpture symbolizes the earths collapsing ecosystem.
A surreal sculpture captures the attention of passers-by.
In order to make the sperm whale more realistic, Captain Boomer Collective invited actors to dress up as scientists and provide onlookers with information about whale strandings. There will even be a "disembowelment" segment during the exhibition to dissect the sperm whale. In the form of samples taken from the corpse, the whales teeth, parasites, whale oil, etc. are displayed. The various possible causes of death of the whale, both man-made and non-man-made, are also explained.
"During the stranding, we saw close communication among the crowd: some people sent messages to friends, speculating and curious about the cause of death; some people asked for relevant information and tried to help; others knew that it was an art work, but still passed on false news to Others. The sperm whale successfully gathered everyones focus." The art group hopes that the huge whale displayed in public space will not only gain a temporary voice, but also arouse peoples environmental awareness.
