Débarrassons le Plancher, which means "Lets get rid of the floor" in French, is an art festival held by Fanny Bouchet and Emmanuelle Messier from the design partners of Byme Architects at this years Center of National Monuments in Aigues-Mortes, France. In , more than 3,000 wooden cubes were used to create a "trap" that swallowed up the floor, telling everyone that keeping your feet on the ground may not prevent you from falling. The key is to watch the road when walking, because the floor can turn into a trap at any time (big mistake).
Fanny Bouchet and Emmanuelle Messier cut squares of wood by hand and glued them to the floor to create an ancient trap from the south of France. In the past, fortress keepers would use a trap door-like device to deceive and attack intruders. Débarrassons le Plancher is inspired by this ancient trap. Of course, the designer added some modern elements, making Débarrassons le Plancher less lethal and more eye-illusioning.
Standing next to Débarrassons le Plancher, looking at the bottom of the cave, although it is not bottomless, these wooden cubes are inexplicably dizzying, as if they will be swallowed up by unknown monsters together with the floor at any time.
The purpose of the Center of National Monuments is to allow more people to appreciate the national cultural monuments. Through this installation art, the designer also hopes to give new life to some seemingly outdated old devices. , by the way, let everyone "review the past and learn the new", review the old things and appreciate modern art.
