Dutch MARKET HALL design that combines market and residence

This year, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, told the world good news. They not only showed the building, but also made the concept real. This started in 2004 by holding a comprehensive architectural competition for markets and residences. Six competitions were organized by Provas won, and the idea to look clean, transparent and grand came true! It was up to MVRDV Architecture and Urban Planning to realize the idea.

If you have been to Barcelona, ??Stockholm and Valencia, you must be impressed by the spacious outdoor markets. Rotterdam MARKT HALL adopts their idea of ??a spacious open-air market, with an inverted U-shaped shape, and a food market in the middle. In order to protect from rain and cold, large steel lock structures are used at the entrances on both sides, all covered with transparent glass. It seems as if there is no cover on both sides and the scenery is unobstructed. The rest of the structure is in gray and white, which is simple and comfortable.
