When I have nothing to do, I like to browse websites introducing home spaces. It is true that the decoration in a house always reflects the personality traits of the residents to a greater or lesser extent. There are many houses that when I first saw them, my first impressions were: "This is an artists home!", "Oh, this person must be a music fanatic", "A house of an avant-garde designer", etc. When I saw the decoration of the house I was going to introduce this time, I thought: "This belongs to a philosopher!"
Laurence Simoncini, co-founder of Paris-based home décor concept store Serendipity, also owns the house. Located on the western coast of France, the exterior of the house is clad in black wood and blends effortlessly into the surrounding landscape. Next to the house there is an old, crooked tree with stones underneath. From a distance, it looks like a dead tree isolated in the desert, with a hint of sadness and loneliness. Do you think this is a bit familiar, reminiscent of Japanese dry landscapes?
The entire house almost only uses earth tones, as if there are only this series of colors on the palette - brown, gray, black, and milky white, which combine to create a quiet and calm atmosphere. All home decoration elements are composed of natural materials, such as fabrics, driftwood, ceramics, concrete, wooden floors, lime plaster walls, etc., emphasizing the simple texture exuded by the raw texture fabrics, and everything maintains a subtle brown balance. The house is decorated with all kinds of second-hand recycled items, which are as beautiful as works of art, almost like an art gallery!
There are no bright colors or gorgeous furniture decorations. Only the most primitive and natural elements are used to create this unforgettable and beautiful space. The whole space is rough and simple, with a slightly weird and strange beauty, coupled with the use of calm tones, brown is earth, milk white is bone, making people naturally silence their hearts and indulge in this huge poetry of desolation.
