Kirin palm is native to the arid and hot areas of eastern India. It is a flowered variant of Bawang whip. The entire Kirin Palm plant contains highly toxic white latex, which can cause poisoning if swallowed by mistake. If accidentally splashed into the eyes, severe cases can lead to blindness. However, many people breed unicorn palms. Below, the editor will introduce the breeding methods and breeding precautions for succulent unicorn palms.
How to breed Qilin Palm
Qilin Palm, also known as Qilin Horn, is evergreen all year round. Its metamorphic stems are green in the early stage, and then gradually become lignified. It is deeply loved by people. Love it, so how can you raise a healthy and beautiful Unicorn Palm? Let’s take a look at how to breed Kirin Palm!
1. Light management
Unicorn palm likes light. After leaving the house in early May, it should be placed under a shade shed for 7 to 10 days before being released. Maintain in a sunny location. Insufficient light can easily cause abnormal stems to grow elongated and become columnar stems. Especially during the growth season of summer and autumn, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light and do not leave it indoors for long periods of time. Although it has gone dormant in winter, the plant still needs to perform photosynthesis to maintain basic life activities. Therefore, it should be placed in a sunny place, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and fall off. It likes sunshine, but avoids exposure to the sun. If it is cultivated outdoors, it can be shaded with bamboo curtains.
2. Watering management
Unicorn palm is relatively drought-tolerant, and the principle of normal watering is to prefer dryness to wetness. When the pot soil is dry and hard and turns white, tap the pot wall and hear a crisp sound to water thoroughly. In winter, watering should be reduced than usual. Indoors with a room temperature of 15°C to 18°C, just water it once every 10 days or so. Excessive watering is not only prone to atavism, but can also cause the roots to suffocate.
3. Fertilization management
Kirin palm does not like fertilizer very much. The principle of fertilizer supply is to prefer less than too much, and prefer light to thick. The potting soil can be mixed with 1/3 of leaf mold soil, briquette residue, and garden soil. When placing the pot, you can put less crushed solid fertilizer as the base fertilizer. Apply about 15% fully decomposed alum fertilizer once a month during the growing season. When fertilizing, avoid using raw or concentrated fertilizer, otherwise it will easily cause root rot and leaf fall. Fertilizer can be stopped during dormancy in winter, and normal fertilizer levels can be gradually restored when growth begins in the following spring.
4. Temperature Management Copyright Production Department
Kirin Palm is not cold-resistant. Generally, you should enter the house when the first cold wave comes before the frost. At the beginning, you should pay attention to indoor ventilation and let it gradually adapt to the indoor microclimate. Even if the weather is warm in winter, do not move outdoors to bask in the sun. In winter, if the room temperature can be kept above 15℃, it can beEnsure that the leaves do not fall; if the leaves have fallen, they can survive the winter safely as long as the temperature is above 7°C. In May the next spring, the leaves can be re-opened.
Precautions for propagation of Unicorn Palm
The succulent plant Unicorn Palm is native to the tropics and likes drought. The most commonly used propagation method is cutting propagation. The following editor will briefly introduce the Unicorn Palm. Precautions for cutting propagation.
Kirin Palm is propagated by cuttings. From May to June, cut the fully grown stem segments as cuttings and dry them for several days. After the wounds have shrunk slightly, insert them into the stems. Be sure not to water it just after inserting it into the plain sand. If you water it immediately after inserting it, the stem section will generally rot from bottom to top. Spray again after 2-3 days. Under the conditions of 20-25℃, roots can take place in 40-50 days.
The potting soil for growing Unicorn Palm in the pot is a mixture of 3 parts vegetable garden soil, 3 parts decomposed manure soil, and 4 parts river sand. When planting, first put a layer of slag or coarse sand on the bottom of the flowerpot (2cm-3cm) to facilitate drainage and prevent waterlogging and root rot. After potting, it should be watered thoroughly, first placed in a cool place for a week, then moved to a weak light place, and then gradually moved to stronger light. It is drought tolerant and should be watered less but not too much. The principle of seeing dryness and wetness is mastered.
