How to care for lucky bamboo
- 1Use filtered or bottled water to prevent the top from scorching. Top scorch can cause the entire plant to die. It is usually caused by elements such as fluorine and chlorine in the water. It is not feasible to use tap water directly. If you want your lucky bamboo to grow healthily, you should use bottled water.
- Once top scorch occurs, it is difficult to solve. Even if the water is changed, some chemical elements are still retained in the plants. You can only wait for it to evaporate slowly.
- 2Trim. Most plants over time will overgrow their tops. So pruning is important to keep your plants healthy. Do not prune the main stem, only trim the side branches. Use special pruners.
- Trim within 2.5-5cm of the bottom. New branches will grow later and the lucky bamboo will grow healthier.
- 3Focus on leaf color. The problem of dry leaves has been discussed above. The leaves turn yellow because of too much light or fertilizer. The leaves turn brown due to lack of water, so you need to spray it with some water.
- If the leaves begin to rot, it is hopeless. Healthy branches should be cut off in time, and the water should be changed and replanted.
- 4Prune heavily if necessary. If the lucky bamboo is dying or you don't like its shape, you can prune it back significantly. Don't throw away healthy cuttings as they can be grown into new plants. Move the new branches growing from the bottom into a flower pot to turn into a new pot of lucky bamboo.
- Put off the dead parts of the lucky bamboo before it dies and transplant healthy branches. As long as it is treated promptly, it can still grow again.
