I wish I could have a white Christmas. Unfortunately, that doesn’t look like it’s going to be a reality, so I’m going to have to try making some snow myself! Here’s a tutorial for making crystal snowflakes out of borax crystals that you can put into a glass bottle as a gift! ~
Materials and tools: borax, twist stick, water, ice cream stick, rope, pot, glass jar. Optional: food dye, battery powered tea light, hot glue.
Cut the twist stick into small sections and twist it into a snowflake shape. You can choose the size you like, just make sure it fits inside the jar without touching the sides. Tie a piece of string to it and tie the other end to a popsicle stick.
The ratio of borax is 1/3 cup of borax to 2 cups of water. Bring the water to a boil and add the borax, stirring with a wooden spoon until completely dissolved.
Tip: I used twoFor a 1-pint glass jar, you'll need 4 cups water and 2/3 cup borax.
Pour the borax/water solution into the jar, making sure it covers the snowflakes, and let sit for at least 24 hours.
Crystal snowflakes are made. I made several as Christmas ornaments, some to hang from light fixtures, and one to place in the center of a small table.
For the Christmas jars, I glued the snowflake to the center of the jar lid and screwed it on.
Hope you like this tutorial! Merry Christmas~
