I love woodworking so I always try to make something for my son on his birthday. He is already five years old and has some fear of knives and guns, so I try to gradually introduce him to the world of knives. I think this is a good start for a five year old boy to start growing up, with knives made of wood of course!~
Material tools: wood, wood glue, paint, scroll saw, electric drill.
The wood grain you choose is important.
I simply drew the outline of the blade and used my scroll saw to cut out the shape of the blade.
This knife is a "full tang" knife, meaning the blade goes all the way through the handle, which is the easiest way to make a real and wooden knife. Let the wood clamp for a few hours before proceeding to the next step.
After the glue dries, use the scroll saw again to cut out the shape of the handle.
Now it was time to "sharpen" and shape the handle, I used a stationary belt sander and a file. I blunted the tip and also the edge of the blade, I did this to avoid injury to the child.
I applied 4 coats of paint, which took about 2 hours in total. This is a simple craft for beginners, and kids will definitely love it~
