I love finding unique ways to craft with recycled materials. During the week of Chinese New Year, we created this fun Egg Troll Craft.
Some of these steps are a little ahead for younger kids, so they may need a little help, but the end result is amazing! Whether you're looking for a fun way to celebrate the Chinese New Year or just worship the dragon, Everyone will fall in love with this awesome craft!
Materials needed for this egg tray craft:
Egg tray
Red acrylic paint (or color of your choice)
Gold metallic paint (optional)
Brush
Yarn
Yarn needle
Glitter Stick
Sequins
White cardboard
Orange and yellow tissue paper
Move your eyes
Black marker
Scissors
Glue
1. First cut the egg tray into individual parts. We used eight sections for the dragon, but I thought it was a bit long. Paint the egg holders with red paint (or a color of your choice). Once they are dry, add some gold metallic paint to your egg trays. Let the paint dry completely.
2. Thread a piece of yarn on your yarn needle. Sew each egg holder together. When you get to the last egg holder, tie a knot in the yarn, cut off the excess, and wrap the ends inside the egg holder.
3. Cut several glitter sticks into 4 parts. Bend the sections. Use a yarn needle to poke two holes in the top of the egg holder and stick the glitter sticks through to create the dragon scales.
4. Cut out a few pieces of gold glitter stick and insert them into the top of the head to get the corners. Then insert it into the faceside to get the dragon whiskers.
5. To add more colorful scales, glue colored sequins to the sides of the egg holder.
6. Cut two slits in front of the dragons face to make the dragons mouth. Glue some white tines and some crinkled orange and yellow tissue paper under the mouth to look like the dragon is breathing fire.
7. Paste the movable eyes and draw the nose with a black marker to complete the creation of the egg dragon~
