Tutorial on hand-making Japanese ethnic style rag dolls, which can be used as childrens toys, to close curtains, or as home accessories. Here are the DIY hand-made methods for each part of the rag doll pendant.
Materials required to make rag doll:
Beige cotton 30 x 30 cm (body), brown wool (hair), cotton, two kinds of floral fabric 50 x 50 cm (clothes and skirts).
Rag doll body production:
1) Fold the beige cloth in half, with the front facing in, and draw a doll shape on the cloth;
2) Cut after sewing, leaving a 0.7cm seam allowance at the edge, and cut out the teeth around it;
3) Cut a return opening in the fabric on the back of the body and turn it back to the front;
4) Stuff cotton from the return opening, you can use wooden chopsticks to assist, and then sew the return opening closed;
5) Use dark thread to embroider the doll’s eyes and mouth, as shown in the picture, complete.
Making a rag doll apron:
1) Cut the skirt and skirt waist according to the picture;
2) Fold each side of the skirt inward by 0.5 cm and sew a circle;
3) The inside of the skirt waist is 0.5 cm from top to bottom, then fold it in half and sew;
4) The skirt is folded into pleats and stitched together with the skirt waist to complete (the apron is still a semi-finished product at this time because it is not surrounded).
Making rag doll clothes:
1) Fold the clothing fabric up and down, put in the paper pattern, fix it with beads and then cut the outline;
2) The left and right sides of the two cut pieces of fabric are sewn together;
3) Cut a long slit on the top of the fabric as the neckline (the left and right endpoints of the neckline are marked on the pattern);
4) Cut out teeth at the bottom of both sides of the sleeves (condensation will be done later);
5) Put the doll into place, fold the neckline inward by 0.3 cm and sew (shrink the neckline while sewing);
6) The skirt is also folded inward and then sewn;
7) The edges of the left and right sleeves are also folded inward, and the sleeves are gradually shrunk during the sewing process;
8) Tie the two ends of the skirt waist together to complete.
Rag doll hair production:
1) Thread 2 strands of dark brown wool into a thick needle;
2) After the thread is knotted, thread it through the clothes to the doll’s head, leaving 10 cm of wool on the top of the head, and then cut it;
3) Repeat the above steps to make a total of 12 hairs;
4) Divide all the hair into two equal parts and braid each one into a braid. This completes the DIY hand-making of the Buwanwan pendant.
