Italian artist Leonardo Frigo uses string instruments as material for gorgeous narrative paintings. His one-of-a-kind pieces adorn the surfaces of violins and cellos with bold designs, eye-catching symbols and embedded text. These creative additions allow these pieces to be used not only as musical instruments but also as storybooks.
Before moving to London, Frigo obtained a degree in art restoration from the International University of Art in Venice, Italy. He studied violins for five years and tried various methods to remove the varnish and decorate the underlying surface. On average, it takes him three weeks to paint each violin. After painting the pattern, he can ensure the quality and longevity of the instrument by applying varnish and re-attaching the strings.
Among Frigos most famous works are illustrations of "The Seven Deadly Sins" and others, which have been exhibited in Europe and Asia, including Italy, Korea, France and the United Kingdom.
