Artist Fran?oise Nielly creates dynamic portraits using vibrant oil paints and a variety of palette knives to delineate eyes, noses between slanted strokes and layers of paint and lips. At first glance, these paintings appear more abstract than abstract. She was able to express the human face in her own style and opened a whole new door to centuries-old portraiture.
Nielly doesn’t have to worry about how to “redo” his face. She grew up with her father, an architect, who had a profound influence on her. Her father taught Nielly about straight lines, something the palette knife is good at creating. "Paint knife drawing allows me to really structure the face," she explains.
