From stained glass windows to intricate stonework, Gothic architecture is impressive - especially considering that many features were handcrafted. Its no surprise that these ornate structures were the inspiration behind British painter Pourbe Atkeys highly detailed architectural drawings.
From the arched doorways of Strasbourg Cathedral to the famous rose window of Notre Dame de Paris, Atkey captures the beauty of some of Europes most iconic buildings. The young self-taught painter painted every gorgeous detail with incredible precision and perfect proportion. Atkey uses a pen and pencil combination to render each figure but keeps it monochromatic. Clever shading and highlights make parts of the figure appear three-dimensional, almost as if you could reach out and touch the stone surface of the building.
