Artist Rosemary Meza-DesPlass illustrations have always been known for their delicate style. When a friend admired one of her paintings at close range, she felt that its delicate lines reminded her of human hair. This comment started Her "human hair" creative series.

At first, Meza-Desplas tried to glue her fallen hair onto the canvas, but the visual effect was very messy and could not be improved no matter how she applied it. Until she had an idea and picked up a needle and thread to use hair as hair. The threads were sewn onto the canvas, and although the process was time-consuming, she was very pleased with the results.

Now she starts every day by combing her long hair with her fingers and collecting the fallen hair. In order to have enough "resources" for her creation, she also collects hair from the bathroom, and when it is time to create, she must first remove all the hair. It is very troublesome to arrange the hair according to the length to achieve the best use!

In order to make her creations more versatile, Meza-Desplas sometimes dyes her hair. She prefers reddish brown and thinks it is very suitable to be interspersed in black and white pictures. She also sews the gray hair that sometimes appears into the picture. She half-jokingly said in the interview that she might soon have to work with black backgrounds and all gray hair.

In addition to inspiration from people and things in life, the image of hair in biblical stories is also a source of inspiration for Meza-Desplas, such as how Mary Magdalene used her hair to wash Jesus' feet in the river. This imagery features a portrait of Magdalene sewn directly onto the T-shirt.

It can be seen from the picture that her main creative theme is the female image. Contrary to the general image of a shaved and clean female body, she created a hairy and powerful female body, or a "real" representation of frizzy short hair in summer. Perhaps only human hair can convey such a direct impression.
