If a painter loses his vision, his creative career will probably end immediately. However, the blind John Bramblitt only began his creative career after he lost his sight.

John Bramblitt lost his vision due to epilepsy in 2001 and became functionally visually impaired. He could only distinguish between light and dark light. Despite this, he created a special way of painting, using paint with a rough texture to paint, and feeling the position of the lines on the canvas through touch. Then, with the accumulation of time and experience, Bramblitt slowly developed more and different techniques to help him confirm the outline of the image more accurately.

In each of Bramblitts works, you can see the bright, bold and passionate color style, such as the clouds in the sky, the interlaced layers of trees in the forest, the sparkling sea water, etc., as if he really Can see the same. In fact, in Bramblitts studio, each can of paint has braille on it. Just like when everyone cooks, they mix ingredients in various proportions according to recipes, Bramblitt also relies on different mixing proportions to mix what he needs. color. Of course, different colors of paint also have completely different textures in Bramblitts hands, so Bramblitt can use the touch of his fingers to control the mixing ratio and color depth to achieve the effect he wants.

In Bramblitt’s first solo exhibition, he did not tell everyone about his vision problem. This was not because he was ashamed to speak up, but because he did not want his vision problem to affect everyone’s perception of his works. If you hadn’t told everyone that Bramblitt was blind, you wouldn’t have been able to imagine that this painting was made by a blind person!
