At the 2019 London Design Festival, British fabric design company Kirkby Design collaborated with the London Underground to use its Underground Vol. II series velvet geometric totem fabric to remodel a 1967 Victorian-style pink carriage. Among the more than 400 works on display, they are no less eye-catching.
The short velvet cushions of the London Underground from the 1930s to the present have been redesigned. After being modified with colors and geometric patterns, the luxurious velvet has a special texture that is both retro and modern, and at the same time highlights the London Underground. Logo features. As for the reason for choosing velvet, it is because its material is closest to the wool velvet originally used in the seats. However, compared to wool velvet, which is tough, elastic, but slightly rough to the touch, velvet seems to be more approachable to the touch.
The design team repainted the interior and exterior of the car in mint and pink, even the windows and lights. They applied the same color gel, instantly filling the entire space with candy-colored sweetness and fantasy. The originally inconspicuous plastic handle was replaced with a matte brass ring due to designer Hannah Borts insistence on details. The seat, which was rebuilt by interior designers and carpenters, is equipped with seven styles. The velvet cushions perfectly reflect the immersive experience of the entire 1970s.
The first-class carriage, hidden behind thick velvet curtains, uses slightly darker blue-green and coral colors to create a steady atmosphere. There is a huge gap between the sweet and dreamy candy colors, and it has become the most popular. Natural space divisions, along with plush carpets on the floor, wooden tables, and brass art decorative lamps on the tables, have a nostalgic style of the Orient Express.
As Kirkby Design director Jordan Mold said, basically every corner of the car has been modified, and the original appearance is not visible at all. I believe everyone has read the whole thingAfter finishing your work, you should be eager to come here to take photos and check in!
