Imitation X-ray transparent biological specimens

Imitation X-ray transparent biological specimens

These biological specimens, which look like X-ray pictures, were created by a Japanese artist after a long period of experimentation. The creatures' hard cuticles were first removed and then soaked in a mixture of blue ethanol and glacial acetic acid before using catalytic enzymes to dissolve skeletal muscles and proteins. Then they were soaked in a potassium hydroxide solution containing red pigment, and the bones began to change color. Finally, the stained specimens were preserved in glycerin for viewing. This new specimen preparation method is different from the traditional method of soaking in formalin test solution. It allows viewers to clearly see the internal organs and skeletal structure of organisms. At the same time, it has a certain artistic appreciation value and is impressive.
