- 2Select a T-shirt. The T-shirt to be altered does not need to fit. Make sure you really don't want the t-shirt anymore, because once you cut it, you can't put it back together (unless you're really good at sewing). Also, remember to choose T-shirts that are inexpensive so that you won’t mind too much if the alteration process goes wrong.
- 3Turn the T-shirt inside out come over. Leave it like this until you finish sewing. This will hide the stitching inside the fabric so it won't be seen.
- 4Ironing vests and T-shirts, Eliminate all wrinkles for a more accurate measurement.
- 5Prepare to cut the vest style. Put the T-shirt flat on the table. Lay the tank top over the T-shirt. Align the tops of the two pieces so the necklines overlap. Remember to center-align the two pieces so you can complete the transformation accurately.
- 6Use pins to secure the vest to the T shirt to prevent it from moving. Put pins along the edge of the vest. The pins must pass through the vest and T-shirt to secure the two pieces of clothing together.
- 7Cut the T-shirt. Cut off the excess T-shirt fabric along the sides of the vest, leaving only Leave 1.25cm of fabric to sew the hem and hem (outer edge). Make good use of the shoulder areas of the T-shirt. seams, necklines and hems, saving you a lot of sewing work later.
- 8Modify the front cuffs of the T-shirt. The front cuffs of a tank top are usually wider than the back cuffs, so you'll need to manually adjust the T-shirt cuffs. Remove the pins holding the tank top and T-shirt together, and turn the T-shirt over to the back. Turn the tank top inside out, then place it right side up on top of the T-shirt and pin the fronts of the two pieces together. Cut the front cuffs of the T-shirt larger according to the size of the front cuffs of the vest. Be careful not to cut into the vest during this process.
- 9Remove the fixed vest and T-shirt Pin the two sides of the T-shirt together. Make sure the T-shirt is still inside out at this time.

- Sew the cuffs. Roll up the fabric at the edge of the cuff in two layers to form a 0.6 cm wide ruffle. Iron them flat to hold them in place. Hand sew these ruffles to complete the cuffs.
