Materials and tools: beeswax, cotton wick (lead-free), coconut oil, large shells (clean – boil or wash with bleach), microwave-safe glass measuring cup, microwave, scissors.
1. Cut the beeswax block into small pieces. Beeswax is very drying, so add 1/4 cup coconut oil to aid burning.
2. Melt the wax and coconut oil together in the microwave.
3. Cut about ten inches of cotton core. Dip it into the wax and let cool for a minute. The ends are then rolled up to form the base of the wick.
4. Center the bottom of the wick over the center of the deepest part of the shell. Wrap the other end of the wick around a pencil or bamboo skewer.
5. Carefully pour the wax into the shells. Allow the wax to cool and harden.
6. Before lighting a new beeswax candle, trim the wick.
