This tutorial shows how to use scraps to create a great gift! Take an unwanted computer desk and old cupboard doors and transform it into a decent toy kitchen, adding all kinds of kitchen utensils to it for your kids. We will be so happy when we receive this gift!~
Required materials:
Old computer desk, knobs and hinges from old cabinet doors, old metal mixing bowls, scrap wooden boards, hooks, handles (if making a microwave, oven, drawer, cupboard), magnetic cabinet door locks, plexiglass from old picture frames or Clear plastic (for oven windows), screws, paint and primer.
Tools needed:
Screwdriver and drill, sandpaper, paintbrush.
The first thing to do is check the construction of the computer desk: Does it have a nice flat top for the stove and sink area? Are there solid sides on the desk? You can use sliders on kitchen drawers Rails? Are there hinged cabinets or doors that could be used?
Whatever table is used, it must be shortened so that children can use it. Most standard table heights are 29 inches or more, but you want a play kitchen countertop height between 16 inches and 24 inches, depending on the size and age of your children. I chose 24 inches.
Tag and disassemble the desktop,The boards are cut and pieced together.
*Before sanding and painting, see the next steps for adding extras like a microwave, oven, sink, drawers, or cabinets.
After assembly, use a palm sander to sand it and try to remove the old paint on the tabletop, so that the paint effect will be better.
Add a stove.
One of the easiest additions is hooks! We added 4 hooks on the top to hang dishes, potholders or cups and then hang aprons on the sides!
The metal mixing bowl found at a thrift store is 9 inches in diameter. The faucet was a used bathroom faucet.
Use a scrap piece of wood and sand the edges to make a phone. The earpiece and microphone are 2 baby bottle caps.
Adding an oven is tricky. I cut some 1"x2" pine boards to make the oven door and cabinet door frames to give a seamless look on the front. Use an old cheap picture frame to add some plexiglass to the back of the oven window with screws.
Microwave ovens require only one bottom plate.
A drawer was added to the bottom and a hinged door was installed on the right side.
Attach door and drawer handles, add an apron, some toys, food andDishes.
The toy kitchen DIY is completed, now children can use it to cook~
