According to statistics, only about 20% of plastic bottles in the world are recycled, and the vast majority of the rest are probably just thrown away. In fact, the use of plastic bottles goes far beyond being a temporary container for drinks. The following simple tutorial will show you how to use soda bottles to make interesting black-framed sunglasses!~
***Please note that this is a fun and decorative pair of glasses only and is not intended to protect your eyes from the sun!
Materials Tools: 2 liter soda bottle, cardboard, adhesive (tape, glue, hot glue, whatever), scissors, ruler, writing utensil (I use a pencil for sketching and an extra fine sharpie Sharpie Marker pen for marking on plastic).
Start by poking a hole in the plastic bottle and cutting the bottle along the seams to separate the neck, body and bottom of the bottle. The top and bottom are not used, we need the middle part.
Fully unfold the bottle and put something heavy on it to make it flat and not roll up.
Some data about sunglasses:
Total length 130-150 mm (excluding temples/part beyond your ears),
The lens is 50-60 mm long,
Lens 35-55mm wide,
The bridge of the nose is 8-20 mm wide,
The stems are 120-150 mm long.
I estimate the size I want the glasses to be, sketch out the proportions, and then proceed to draw the actual design based on the grid.
Take your plastic piece and place it on your design paper. Use an ultra-fine Sharpie marker to transfer the design to the plastic piece, cutting along the lines to get ready for the next step.
I ended up getting the lenses and two temples.
One problem with the plastic piece is that it tends to bend, which makes it difficult to wear on your face.
To prevent this, I cut long strips from cardboard and stretched and supported the plastic piece along the top of the glasses (where my view would not be blocked).
The cardboard and lens parts are fixed with glue.
You can also replace the plastic temples with cardboard.
Trace the drawing onto cardboard and cut it out.
Tear off part of the ends of the temples.
Used to stick to the lens.
Fold the cardboard so that the sunglasses can be folded and stored away.
Congratulations! Now you have your own homemade glasses that you can decorate as desired.
For example, use black tape to stick the lenses and temples together to create a very restrained pair of glasses~
