Friends who love flowers and plants should all have the experience of "breaking the earthen jar": a good pot of flowers was accidentally moved or was not placed firmly and was blown to the ground by the wind, causing the earthen jar to break. With a sigh, I cleaned up the remaining flowers and fallen leaves, and had to throw away the broken flowerpot. Here is a way to renovate discarded earthenware pots and turn them into beautiful bonsai plants.
This article introduces two examples of cracked clay flowerpots. Let’s see how to turn a pile of garbage into a beautiful bonsai:
Example 1. Deep glazed clay pot
A terracotta flower pot with cracked glazing, 40 cm high, I carefully designed it and made it into a three-story container with a slope
Use paper tape to plan the cutting opening
Use a portable grinder to cut the shape. If you don’t have a grinder, it is best to use a glass cutter to draw the curve first, and then try it carefully with a hammer
Because the space at the bottom is too large and takes up too much useless soil, place a plastic flower pot of appropriate height and inverted.
Put some foam on it, only 5-8 centimeters of soil is enough
The two small pieces cut off serve as internal dividing walls, dividing them into three planting spaces. Still looks like a pile of garbage
Put in planting soil: 85% potting mix, 10% river sand, 5% long-lasting organic fertilizer
This is the overall effect
Plant ferns on the upper layer. They will grow upward without affecting other plants. The cylindrical cactus will grow downward. On the right is a small aloe vera
To balance the colors (too much green), the fairy stole a high-heeled shoe (a Christmas tree ornament)
This is the middle layer (from left): Chlorophytum, cactus, succulent, gem flower
Lower layer: succulents, babys breath
Right slope: A lying creeper (Spanish Shawl) "Spanish Shawl" with red flowers hanging down
The three floors are independent of each other for easy viewing
Example 2. Small clay flowerpot
A small flowerpot 20 cm high with a crack
Cut the gap
The fragments serve as internal separation walls
Slightly fix it (you can also fix it with soil)
Good effects
On the upper level, in order to balance the colors, add a butterfly
Lower level and slope
The bonsai made from two broken flower pots is very lively
Description:
1. View:
This is a good idea, because the cut-out gap makes the viewing angle and surface larger, and the three-dimensional effect is stronger
2. Traces of rupture:
The gaps of various cracks are different. It is best to conceive in advance and make a container that achieves the best viewing effect
3. Pay attention to safety during production
Wear protective equipment such as glasses and gloves when making
4. Pay attention to safety when moving
It is very likely that there are several cracks. Except for the one that was cut off, if there are others, it is best to use strong glue to fix the gaps. Be extra careful when moving containers, preferably by holding the bottom, to prevent cracks from deepening and breaking again. Handle it with care and do not move it frequently.
5. Plant selection
You can choose according to your own preferences, but it is best to choose succulents and cactus plants that are easier to care for, grow slowly and do not deform. Cuttings of succulent plants are basically used here. This is the arrangement for now, and we will make adjustments later depending on the situation.
6. Placement
The location of the bonsai container should be based on the choice of plants. Ferns are used here. They should not be placed in the sun. They should be placed in a place with sun and rain protection and maintain a certain humidity.
