Most of us would think nothing else when we pass an old food can on the street. But famous street artist My Dog Sighs turns trash into treasure. The artist founded the Free Art Friday project, which transforms found discarded materials into works of art. Each week, he and the other participating artists leave a new piece of work on the street for anyone to find and take home. Over the past 10 years, My Dog Sighs has had a particular fondness for choosing humble tin cans.
From discarded soup cans to old condensed milk cans, My Dog Sighs flattens them into flat canvases and then paints realistic faces on the bottoms. The artists ever-growing family of canned characters includes people, cats, dogs, and even Yoda from Star Wars. No matter the subject, each piece is sure to delight whoever stumbles upon it.

“By hand-painting, I give them a second chance at life,” says My Dog Sighs. "I painted them with melancholy faces so that anyone who walks by would not ignore them, but cherish them and want to give them a new home."
