Even if you are not, there should be more or less such people around you: a truckload of old things is piled up. Most of them are either unusable or have a usage rate close to zero, and naturally become the home of dust and spiders. Neither throwing it away nor putting it away, how to deal with these incomplete memories? Fortunately, Brazilian visual artists will provide some ideas to reinvent these grandfatherly items without losing their charm.
Artist Tatiane Freitas.
My Old New Chair is a series of creations by artist Tatiane Freitas. Different from ordinary repair work, she decided to use translucent acrylic to replace the missing wood and decorate these grandfather-level furniture. "Prosthetic limbs", while restoring their original functions, can also bring a conflicting beauty of old and new.
Such an abrupt but distinctive repair method has been introduced before: the Japanese Kintsugi originated in the 15th century (see also here), which can repair damaged ceramics and present a special look of intertwined metal and fragments. Whether they are from the East or the West, these works remind us not to throw away things in a hurry when they are broken, nor to stuff them deep in the warehouse. With a little ingenuity, these dusty memories may be able to see the light of day again.
In addition to chairs, beds are also the objects of her creations.
